An English teacher, Phil is relaxing and reading in a grassy field when he encounters a cobra snake named, Ssskatata. The cobra is an anthropomorphic character that uses satirical dialogue to enlighten Phil about the animals’ perspective on the destruction to species and the planet due to the Anthropocene extinction era (human activity as the dominate influence on climate and the environment). Ssskatata delves into political, and cooperate decisions humans have made that have impacted the biodiversity of the planet. Ssskatata expounds on humans’ cruelty to animals over millenniums. The novel climaxes when Ssskatata tells a personal story and sentences Phil to death for humans’ indiscretions.
