Compiled to generate students' awareness of cultural diversity and open new boundaries in literature, this anthology presents a broad range of contemporary non-western writings - from Asia, Oceania, Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean. The text provides a selection of poetry, fiction, plays and memoirs by 180 authors from 61 countries, translated from 23 different languages. Readings were selected based on the writers' significance in their own cultural and literary history, their overall contribution to literature, and their influence on other writers.
